Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement that campaigns against violence and prejudices toward black people.

In 2013, three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi — created a Black-centered political will and movement building project called #BlackLivesMatter. It was in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman. The jury acquitted Zimmerman of all charges. Through the years, the organization has renewed what may seem like a new fight for civil rights in the 21st century, it is in every way building on a long history of activism that goes back to slavery.

In The Legacy of Black Lives Matter, written by Fabiola Cineas, a reporter for Vox media. She claims that the Black Lives Matter Movement helped advanced the efforts of hundreds of activists who fought for Black liberation in the US and abroad — and how the movement’s impacted stood out from past efforts. The Black Lives Matter as a whole movement is powerful. Although it may or may not accomplish the tangible goals within a lifetime, the movement captures people’s attention. They force people who might otherwise be complacent to listen and consider changing their view. They mobilize people on the ground, who in turn place pressure on leaders to do something.

Based on the claims of the author, she well integrates her claims into her writing by bringing in knowledge she already knew and quoting well-known figures. I would say, to strengthen her claims is to add counterclaims and rebuttals to see the whole picture, instead of one side.

The media article Vox, is an American news and opinion website owned by Vox Media. The website is from the far-left liberal side where Vox Media is an American digital media company that operates news and opinion websites and new media channels. Originally founded by left-wing political activists including Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas and led by an executive team with deep connections to the Democratic Party, Vox Media has expanded from its original roots in sports blogging into a network that covers news, politics, sports technology, science, culture, video games, real estate, food, and more from a generally left-of-center perspective.

To contrast this liberal article, in Don’t Anyone Dare Lecture Me About Race, written by Dov Fischer, a writer for The American Spectator, claims that Black Lives Matter is a despicable, anti-freedom, anti-Semitic organization that hates our country’s core values of equal opportunity, law and justice, and free enterprise. They further explain that the country’s Constitution does not guarantee equal results, only equal opportunities to mess up or to succeed. Which is what propelled our nation to “greatness”. It was not the diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, but rather, equal opportunity.

Based on the claims, especially from a conservative side, this article holds a lot of bias where the author strongly detests the Black Lives Matter Movement and our constitution’s values. The article sounded almost like a rant, where the author brought in memories from his past to validate his claims, but if the author where to bring in concrete evidence and facts to support his claims, he would have sounded more credible and logical of a writer.

The article is written by the American Spectator. The site is from the right conservative side, where they educate the public on new ideas, concepts, and policies that favor traditional American values, such as economic freedom, individual liberty, self-sufficiency, and limited government. They also influence young writers to pursue careers in journalism to encourage them to be conservative writers and thinkers.
